Banana and chocolate porridge

We hear it everywhere, nothing gives you a better start to the day than a decent breakfast.  But we also know that sometimes time in the mornings is tight, no matter how much earlier we get up.  This banana and chocolate porridge recipe is just perfect as its quick and delicious to make, but also you can prepare it in advance and just reheat it.

Serves 2

What you’ll need:

  • 60 g porridge oats
  • 200 ml milk
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tsp Nutella



  1. Measure the porridge oats and milk into a saucepan on a medium heat and break the banana into chunks on top
  2. Using a potato masher, mash the banana in the oats.  You can do this as roughly or finely as you prefer
  3. Add some water if you feel that the porridge is too thick/dry for your liking
  4. Stir in the Nutella and heat until the porridge has thickened and is starting to bubble



  • If Nutella isn’t your thing, you can add pieces of chocolate, cocoa powder or cacao powder to give yourself a Nutella-free chocolatey porridge
  • If you’d prefer to forgo the chocolate completely, why not sweeten plain porridge with a teaspoon of honey and top with a selection of fruit
  • For some extra fibre, add a tablespoon of chia seeds and flaxseed.  Just be aware that these absorb a LOT of liquid so add plenty of extra milk or water
